President's Welcome Letter for the 2022-2023 Term
Dear SMPS Oregon,
I would like to welcome everyone to the 2022-2023 program year for SMPS Oregon. Kicking off this year, I am excited, along with the Board of Directors, to launch another fantastic year of programming, education, and networking opportunities for the AEC industry. I would like to take a moment to thank all the volunteers from the past year and this upcoming year for their efforts and time. As a volunteer-driven organization, we would not exist without everyone’s hard work.
Over the last few years, we have had to adapt to the changing landscape regarding how we deliver content to our audience. As we continue to pivot back to more in-person events, we recognize that there are many benefits to retaining a mix of in-person and virtual programs. This year will be very similar to last year with SMPS Oregon continuing to offer a mix of program formats. At the board planning session this summer, we planned a great schedule of programs and events consisting of some of your favorites, while also bringing in new topics to keep content fresh and relevant.
This year SMPS Oregon also celebrates it’s 40th Anniversary. This is not an easy feat, and we should all be proud that not only do we turn 40 this year (which is exceptional for a volunteer organization) but we have done so as one of the most successful chapters. With this in mind, we will hold a 40th anniversary celebration early next summer.
I would like to take this last moment to encourage everyone to volunteer, if possible. I have been a member of SMPS Oregon for 13 years and I can say, without a doubt, the most important benefit of SMPS for me is the connections I formed though volunteering. While our programs, education, and networking events are top notch, nothing compares to the small group relationships you get from volunteering on a committee.
It is a privilege to be elected as your president and with the phenomenal experience and knowledge of the board, I am excited to see SMPS grow and evolve this year. We will continuously strive to offer the most value to our membership and the AEC community. Thank you for everyone’s support.
Gregory Fritz
