SMPS Oregon Donates to In4All

Every year, the SMPS Oregon board selects a local nonprofit organization to support with a donation. For our 2023-2024 programming year, we are incredibly excited to announce a $1,500 donation to In4All! Our donation will help contribute to In4All's STEM Connect education of 4th and 5th graders as well as their Design Thinking program for middle and high schoolers this upcoming fall.
In4All mobilizes community, bringing local businesses and schools together to provide real world, hands-on learning experiences that expand opportunities for students who are historically underserved to engage in their education and aspire to careers in fields they might not otherwise consider possible. WHAT THEY DO
Unraveling systemic barriers starts early. Students begin to develop ideas about their pathways the moment they enter the hallways of our schools. Our engagement model allows us to connect with students who have been historically underserved at multiple points through their K-12 education impacting their ability to overcome historically marginalizing barriers. It starts with classroom activities in elementary school that spark an interest in math and science, two subjects that are key indicators of future success. In middle school, we use a design-thinking methodology to engage eighth graders in solving problems that have relevance to them in their community. Finally, we are working with alternative high schools to create experiences that help students connect learning with their future.
