Happy New Year and new decade!

New Years is a perfect time for new resolutions, goals, and visions. And what better way to jump-start this year than by exploring new leadership roles! I’d like to ask you to consider adding volunteering with SMPS Oregon to your 2020 goals. We are currently in need of volunteers on every committee and specifically need Chairs for our Education, Programs, and Membership Committees, as well as a new Secretary Board of Directors member.

I know we are all busy, so here’s what time commitment you can expect: attend monthly committee meetings and spend a few hours a week on committee responsibilities. These responsibilities typically include event planning, writing, and/or event attendance.

Chair and Board of Director positions provide fabulous networking opportunities and are great ways to grow as a leader within our design/construction community. Volunteering with SMPS has many additional benefits including:

• Learning new skills—everything from event planning to team management to budgeting.
• Expanding your network—meet more industry peers by engaging in committees and being actively involved in our events.
• Giving back to the community—SMPS is a non-profit that operates because of our volunteers and sponsors.
• Gain leadership experience—leverage opportunities to create more visibility for your firm and become a marketing leader in the AEC industry.

SMPS Oregon operates entirely through the support and hard work of our volunteers. From organizing events like the annual Market Mixer to facilitating monthly Roundtables to writing blog posts, it all comes from volunteers. And we need more volunteers to continue our level of service and great events.
